The historic Phelps-Spangler house stood on a farm, at the corner of Route 53 and Normantown Road. The family eventually sold off the farm land, keeping the house and outbuildings. The Phelps-Spangler house was the home of Alice Phelps Spangler until the 1980s, when Alice died. Efforts were made to save the house by the Save the Spangler House Committee, but the house was eventually demolished. Alice Spangler was the secretary for the Dupage Township one-room schools. The attendance records sh maintained assist in locating historic farm families. Alice Spangler was also one of the founders of the Romeoville Area Historical Society.
